Justice Not Favor: Alabama Women and the Vote

August 26, 2021 – June 4, 2022
Second Floor Gallery

This temporary exhibition was a centerpiece in the ADAH’s multi-year commemoration of the centennial of women’s suffrage. Developed and designed entirely by ADAH staff, Justice Not Favor explored the compelling story of the long fight to secure voting rights for women in the state. From the debate over the 19th Amendment through the modern Civil Rights era, the exhibition illuminated the lives and voices of Alabama suffragists across four generations, spanning nearly all of the twentieth century. During its ten-month run, thousands of visitors explored Alabama’s complex suffrage story through vivid graphics and original archival materials and museum artifacts from the ADAH’s collections and on loan from other institutions and individuals.

In June 2022, Justice Not Favor received an Award of Excellence from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH).
